Becoming a Mason

For a man to petition a Lodge for membership, he must be of lawful age (currently 18) and of good reputation. A belief in a supreme being is required — though Masonry can be described as “religious” in some of its symbols, rituals, and stories, it is not a religion and members of all Faiths are welcome, as are men of all ethnicities and political affiliations. Masonry is a means for men from all walks of life to meet “on the level” of equality, and to share in the work of bettering themselves and the world.

To inquire about petitioning a Lodge in the Cortland-Madison District, please contact the one nearest you.

If you are outside of the Cortland-Madison District, please visit the Grand Lodge membership inquiry page located here.
